Chennai: The visit of Sonia Gandhi to Tiruchirappalli tomorrow to address a rally as part of the Congress` 125th year celebration would help in strengthening the party in Tamil Nadu, senior leader and Union Shipping Minister G K Vasan said on Friday.

"The 125th year of the Congress party is being celebrated all over the country. In Tamil Nadu, we have planned for a mammoth public meeting tomorrow and Congress President Sonia Gandhi will attend the meeting," he said on the sidelines of a function here.
When asked whether Gandhi`s visit would rejuvenate the state unit of the party, he said party cadres were eagerly waiting for her visit and it would certainly strengthen the
party and help it grow in future.

Vasan said this would be Gandhi`s first visit to Tamil Nadu after being re-elected for the fourth consecutive term as the AICC president. "Lakhs of party cadres and public will receive her in the meeting," he said.
Party sources here said Gandhi would arrive in Tiruchirappalli by tomorrow evening in a helicopter from Puducherry. Former union minister Su Thirunavukkarasar along with his
supporters would formally join the party on the occasion.

Union Ministers belonging to the Congress, party MPs, MLAs and functionaries from various parts of the state would attend the public meeting, they said.
