Colombo: At least 37 Indian fishermen have been arrested by the Sri Lanka Navy when they were fishing off the northern coast of the country, an official said Tuesday.
"Thirty-seven fishermen were detained and nine trawlers were seized yesterday," Lankan Naval spokesman Commander Kosala Warnakulasuriya said.
They were detained for breaching the International Maritime Boundary Line off the northern coast of the island, the official said.
Four trawlers and 15 fishermen were arrested off the Delft Sea area while the others were detained off Talaimannar, the official added.
They were handed over to the Talaimannar police and were to be produced in court today.
