Chennai: The dog days of summer may be far from over for Chennai and its surroundings with the mercury hovering over the 40 degree celsius mark even as the weatherman has forecast hot days.
The metropolis recorded 42.2 degree celsius on Tuesday.

"Maximum temperature would be around 41 degree Celsius," the weather office said in its forecast for the next 48 hours, adding the city and its neighbourhoods had not received any rainfall even as Udhagamandalam, Tirupuvanam (Sivaganga dt) and Melur (Madurai) received good rainfall.

The peak summer period, `Kathiri` where the mercury soars over 40 degrees, ended in the last week of May but there has been no let up from the scorching heat in Chennai and some other parts of the state even as schools had reopened in the first week of June.

Heat wave is also being experienced in the wake of sea breeze setting in late during the day.
