Tamil Nadu polls: DMK making false claims, says Jayalalithaa

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa on Monday said her government has fulfilled the poll promises made by the party in 2011 and the DMK's claim that 90 percent of them were undone was false.

Chennai: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa on Monday said her government has fulfilled the poll promises made by the party in 2011 and the DMK's claim that 90 percent of them were undone was false.

Listing out, at an election rally at Kanchipuram district around 70 km from here, the various freebies given by her government and other welfare measures, she said: "Unable to tolerate our achievements, DMK leader M.Karunanidhi is making a false campaign stating that 90 percent of the poll promises have not been fulfilled."

On the other hand the DMK has not fulfilled its poll promises made in 2006, she said.

Referrring to DMK's 2016 poll manifesto, she said it promised it would urge the central government to store water in the Mullaperiyar Dam at 142 feet but noted that the water storage level there for the past two years is 142 feet.

She urged the DMK not to betray the interests of Tamil Nadu as the apex court has ordered that the storage at the Mullaperiyar Dam can be up to 152 ft.
