Chennai: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister O Panneerselvam, who also holds the finance portfolio, on Wednesday announced the setting up of a data analytics unit to improve better service delivery.
Presenting the state's budget for the fiscal 2015-15, Panneerselvam said the government proposes to establish a data analytics unit as a collaboration between the Department of Economics and Statistics and the Tamil Nadu e-Governance Agency.
The proposed unit would analyse, in real time, the large volume of data available with the government to enable improved policy-making for better service delivery, the chief minister said.
"Tamil Nadu will be the first state to establish such a unit," Panneerselvam said.
According to the Chief Minister, 32 projects with an outlay of Rs 84.85 crore have been approved by the state planning commission under the Tamil Nadu Innovation Initiatives programme.
