Three-member gang from Kolkata nabbed by public

A three-member gang from Kolkata, which robbed 25 sovereigns of gold and Rs 60,000 in cash from a jewellery shop at gunpoint on Saturday were nabbed by the public and handed over to police, officials said.

Madurai: A three-member gang from Kolkata, which robbed 25 sovereigns of gold and Rs 60,000 in cash from a jewellery shop at gunpoint on Saturday were nabbed by the public and handed over to police, officials said.
They said the gang entered the shop just after it opened this morning, forced workers to down the shutters and grabbed the gold and cash. The employees raised alarm when they tried to escape following which public nabbed two of them.

They nabbed the other gang member near the railway station.
Police said this was the first time that a gang from West Bengal had come all the way to south Tamil Nadu to rob jewellery shops here.

A gun and a knife were recovered from the trio, police said, adding, all the jewellery and cash had been recovered.
