Chennai: Tamil Nadu government would form a commissionerate for refugees rehabilitation and overseas Tamils, Chief Minister M Karunanidhi has said.

In his address at the state conference of the Indian Union Mulsim League, Karunanidhi said his party DMK had espoused the cause of Sri Lankan Tamils for 60 years even when not in power. His party would strive for not only welfare of Tamils who had gone abroad, but also belonging to other countries.

A welfare board for Tamil working abroad would also be set-up, he said.

On reservation for minorities, especially Muslims, he said the Centre was "duty bound" to implement various recommendations of the Ranganath Mishra Commission, constituted to study the status of minorities in India.

The DMK president was also presented with an award by the
IUML.
