Dharmapuri: A nine-year-old boy was Tuesday killed when he was knocked down by a school bus while waiting to board his school van near Pennagaram, 44 km from here, police said.
The boy's parents were witness to the tragedy.
A case was registered under IPC sections 279 (rash driving) and 304A (causing death by negligence) and the 68-year-old driver of the private school bus arrested, police said.
Chief Educational Officer-in-charge K.R.Maheswari said educational department officials led by Pennagaram AEEO Sudhakar have been asked to ascertain the situation and submit a report at once.
Based on the report, action would be initiated against the school management if any fault was found in the operation of the vehicle, she added.
