Chennai: Tamil Nadu unit of Congress on Friday issued a show cause notice to its leader Karti Chidambaram, son of former Union Minister P Chidambaram, seeking explanation for some of his remarks against the party and veteran leader Kamaraj.
"A show cause notice has been served to Karti Chidambaram asking him to explain his conduct in criticising veteran leader Kamaraj and also making certain remarks against the party high command within a week," TNCC President EVKS Elangovan told PTI here.
The remarks made by Karti at a meeting of his supporters he had called here yesterday "are not acceptable" to the party, he said, voicing displeasure over the action of the young leader, who lost the Lok Sabha election from Sivaganga seat, held by his father.
"If the party is not satisfied by the reply, it will consider even expelling Karti from the party", he said.
Reacting to the development, Karti Chidambaram said he was yet to receive the notice and would respond after getting it.
In the show cause notice, Elangovan said Karti had criticised the party high command and thus 'put spokes' in the growth of Congress.
"You should give explanation as to why you should not be expelled from the party for convening a meeting which was tantamount to breaking the unity of the party," the notice said warning of expulsion if he did not offer an explanation.
Party sources said the party high commmand was "apprised of the situation" before sending the notice to Karti.
Meanwhile, Karti supporters said there could be "nothing objectionable" in what their leader told them yesterday as the idea was only to "strengthen the party" which is going through a lean phase after electoral drubbings.
