Top army official condoles death of Dilshan

Chennai: A top Army official today expressed grief over the shooting down of a 13 year-old boy inside the Army premises here on July 3 following which a former Lt. Colonel was arrested.

"Lieutenant General A K Singh, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Southern Command expressed his profound grief at the tragic death of Dilshan. He lauded the joint effort of the Army and Police in solving the case in such a short time and arresting the culprit responsible for this heinous crime," a Defence release said.

Singh, who visited Chennai today, reviewed the operational readiness and administrative functioning of Headquarters Andhra, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Kerala Area, a Defence release here said.

Dilshan, living near the army residential quarters, was shot dead when he trespassed into the area and tried to pluck fruits on July 3. The CB-CID team that cracked the case had arrested former Lt Col Kandasamy Ramaraj on July 10.

The release said Lieutenant General R K Swamy, Chief of Staff, Southern Command also reviewed the operational readiness and administrative functioning.
