Two post-delivery deaths in govt hospital triggers tension in TN

Two post delivery deaths at a government run hospital at Pollachi in the district over the past few days has triggered tension among the public, just about two weeks after five such deaths were recorded at a hospital in the tourist resort town of Udhagamandalam.

Police said a 20-year-old woman was admitted to the Government Hospital on Saturday. She delivered a girl child last evening after a Caesarian operation. However she developed some post-delivery problems, including bleeding and was referred to the Government Hospital here, they said.

She died en route to the hospital last night.

Another woman died four days back after normal delivery at the hospital.

Relatives of the 20-year-old woman staged a demonstration in front of the hospital, demanding action against those who handled the surgery. Officials assured them that an inquiry would be held into her death.

Police said the relatives of the woman who died four days back also staged a demonstration today, suspecting negligence.

Five women had died at the Sait Memorial Hospital in Udhagamandalam in the last week of December after complications during delivery.
