Nagapattinam (TN): An unmanned boat, equipped
with state-of-the-art facilities, was found abandoned at
Karaikal fishing harbour in neighbouring Union Territory of
Puducherry on Wednesday, causing a flutter.

Police received an alert that an unmanned `deluxe boat`
was found at theharbour since last midnight following which
a team led by Superintendent of Police Venkataswamy rushed to
there and conducted enquiries.
Police sources said preliminary investigation revealed
that the deluxe boat with a seating capacity of 20 was
actually a fishing boat and had been modified for other
purposes. But there was fishing equipment in the boat.

Police suspect the boat might have been used for illegally
transporting people to nearby countries. Since the coastal
patrol was tight in Karaikal and Nagapattinam coast, the boat
personnel might have decided to get into the fishing harbour
to escape, police said.
The intelligence wing police of Puducherry was conducting
further investigation.
