Soon, a car that will monitor driver’s heartbeat Sydney: Automobile giant, Ford has announced that it is in the process of developing a special seat that can monitor the driver’s heartbeat. The company is also working on an in-car application to help diabetics to manage their condition.

“Data collected by the sensors, for example, could be analyzed by medical experts or on-board computer software,” the Sydney Morning Herald quoted Ford as saying.

‘‘Possibilities therefore abound from linking to remote medical services and Ford vehicle safety systems to even providing real-time health information and alerts of imminent cardiovascular issues such as a heart attack,’’ the company added.

This is a part of the company’s plan to add functions to its MySync in-car management system that could provide a host of health-related functions for chronic illnesses, including diabetes, asthma and allergies.

The system could serve as a blessing to drivers, considering the long hours that they spend in their cars than ever before.

For the heart-monitoring system, electrodes have been placed at strategic positions around the seat, and are sensitive enough to detect the electronic signature of the heart through clothing.
