New Delhi: N Prashanth and Rohan Gide made a
winning start to the USD 10,000 ITF Futures tournament but it
was curtains for Vivek Shokeen, who conceded his first round
match here today.
Prashanth routed wild card Akash Wagh 6-2, 6-0 while Gide
advanced when his Australian opponent K Balakrishnan retired
mid-way.
Gide was leading 6-2, 2-0 when Balakrishnan opted out of
the contest.
Shokeen also could not complete his match and left the
court when he was trailing 4-6, 0-2 against Philipinnes' wild
card Johnny Arcilla.
In the doubles event, last week's semifinalists and top
seed Ashutosh Singh and Vishnu Vardhan hardly did anything to
move to second round as only after the first game of the first
set, which they won, their opponents wild cards Chandril and
Lakshit sood withdrew from the contest.
Second seeds Rohan Gajjar and Briton Chris Eaton had
ousted last week's winners Tim Bradshaw and Max Jones after a
tough first round match.
The Indo-British pair prevailed 2-6 6-4 10-4 over the
unseeded British pair.
