New Delhi: Local hope and top seed Vishnu
Vardhan kept himself in contention for a second successive ITF
Futures singles title by reaching the final of the ongoing USD
10,000 event with a straight set win over Dutch Peter Lucassen
here today.
The reigning national grass court champion beat fifth
seed Peter 6-4 6-2 in the semifinal at the DLTA Complex.
He will lock horns with Korean second seed Kim Young-Jun,
who prevailed over third-seed Briton Chris Eaton 6-3 6-3 in
the other semifinal.
Vishnu won his maiden ITF singles title in July here when
he beat Rohan Gajjar. After that he participated in a few ATP
Challenger events in Brazil before returning to the national
capital.
Yet again, his improved serve proved to be Vishnu's major
weapon as he grabbed an early break opportunity to wrest the
initiative and take the first set.
The second set too started on a positive note for the
Hyderabadi as Lucassen struggled to hold serve.
High on confidence Vishnu did not waste much time in
grabbing the issue though the Dutch did manage to save four
match points.
Vishnu had won the doubles title with Ashutosh Singh
yesterday.
