Israel’s oldest newspaper Haaretz endorses Obama

Jerusalem: President Barack Obama, who has battled accusations that he is not fully committed to the US relationship with Israel, has locked down the endorsement of that country’s left-of center newspaper.

In an editorial, Haaretz called Obama ‘good for Israel’ and wrote:

“Obama continued this two-way track vis-à-vis Iran and the issue of Palestinian statehood. Under his pressure, Israel suspended for the first time - for a while - construction in the settlements”.

“Relations between the two countries'' armed forces have never been so close. Obama's challenge in his second term, if he wins the elections, is to lead the region to a stable arrangement of peace and security,” Politico quoted the report, as stating.

According to the report, while Obama has come under constant criticism for his testy relationship with the Israeli government, a recent IBD/CSM/TIPP poll showed him leading among Jewish American voters 59 percent to 35 percent.

That’s down significantly from his 2008 results, where exit polls showed that he won 78 percent of Jewish voters, the report added.

as a christian resident of israel who loves this country, i am shocked that anyone or any newspaper (even if they are left of left) could actually endorse mr. obama after experiencing his arrogant dealings with this nation for 4 years. also interesting that ms brand-vanwert sites 5-10% of the people in the us behind mr. romney when the polls consistently present a tied race... 49% to 49%, no doubt a democrat from ohio.. with little interest in israel.

i`m so happy about this!!! romney has consistently stressed his personal friendship with netanyahu, which also has a considerable downside for the israelis and the americans romney will undoubtedly do whatever netanyahu wants him to do that`s consistent with romney`s character as a man and a politician. he plays to his friends, always!!! not to the 100 per cent but to the 1 percent... at best the 5 -10 percent of people in america.
