Puducherry: Senior Congress leader and MP from Puducherry, P Kannan on Friday launched the Prime Minister's 'Sansaad Adarsh Gram yojana' at Sellipet village in the Union Territory.
The village adopted by the Rajya Sabha member comes under the territorial limits of Thirubhuvanai (reserved) constituency from where the ruling AINRC legislator P Angalane was elected to the territorial assembly in the 2011 polls.
Kannan, accompanied by the legislator and officials, also embarked upon the Clean India movement in the village.
Lok Sabha member R Radhakrishnan (AINRC) had already launched the scheme in Karayambuthur village.
Meanwhile, the PCC president A V Subramanian, when contacted, told PTI that village adoption by MPs is 'mandatory for developing backward pockets into a model pocket'.
