Lucknow: Flood fury claimed ten more lives in Uttar Pradesh raising the death toll this monsoon in the state to 402 as army was called out on Monday in deluge-hit Unnao and Farrukhabad districts to help in rescue and relief works.
Ten more perished in floods in different parts of the state since last evening even as major rain-swollen rivers had started receding. The number of flood-affected districts in the state stood at 33, officials said adding relief and rescue efforts were on on a war-footing in all these places.
Army was called out in Farrukhabad and Unnao, where the flood situation was still grim, to assist the administrations in rescue and relief works. Last week, the help of the army was sought in Badaun and Shahjahanpur districts, the officials said.
The Central Water Commission said major rivers had started receding in the absence of rains in the past few days. However, river Ganga was maintaining an upward trend
all along from Kannauj to Allahabad and was flowing above the red mark near Kanpur Dehat.
River Ram Ganga, which had wreaked havoc in several districts, was receding but was still flowing above the danger mark in Shahjahanpur.
