16 injured in clash over bursting of crackers, 37 arrested

At least 16 people were injured when members of two communities clashed with each other allegedly over bursting of crackers during Diwali in Gopiganj area, police said Saturday.

allegedly over bursting of crackers during Diwali in Gopiganj
area, police said Saturday.

The incident occurred late last night when one Ajay Nate
and his aides lobbed fire crackers with high decibel sound on
some houses in Baidakhas locality to which the residents, who
were members of another community, objected, police said.

They said that the minor dispute led to a clash between
the members of the two communities who attacked each other
with sticks and rods and indulged in heavy brick batting,
injuring 16 persons.

"Eleven persons, who sustained serious injuries in
the clash, were admitted in the district hospital," police
added.

In a bid to control the situation, police resorted to
lathi charge and arrested 37 people in this connection, they
said, adding, in the wake of tension and to avert further
clashes, heavy PAC had been deployed in Gopiganj area.
