2 CRPF jawans die during drill, as many fall ill

Two jawans of CRPF died today while taking part in a long-distance run in hot and humid weather as part of their training while an equal number fell ill apparently due to severe dehydration and exhaustion, police said.

and exhaustion, police said.

The incident took place in Tharwai police station area of
the district, 25 kms from the city, where about 2,000 jawans
recruited nearly six months ago are currently receiving
training, police said.

This morning, the jawans were taking part in a 16km-long
run when four of them fainted midway, police said adding that
by the time they were brought to the SRN hospital in the city
by CRPF officials, Surjeet Rai, who hails from Vaishali
district in Bihar, and Sunil, who hails from Tamil Nadu, were
dead.

Two others Ram Pravesh and Pervez were admitted for
treatment and their condition was stated to be out of danger.

According to hospital sources, although the exact cause
of the deaths has not been ascertained so far, all the four
jawans had fallen ill apparently due to severe exhaustion and
dehydration during the rigorous drill that was taking place in
hot and humid weather.
