Gonda/Sitapur: As many as 38 people received burn injuries when Tazias, being taken for burial, came in contact with overhead electric wires at different places in the two districts on Tuesday.
In Gonda, 23 people were injured when the upper end of the Tazia came in touch with an overhead power line in Bhagohar village under Wazirgaj police station area, police said.
The injured were rushed to Wazirganj community health centre from where ten were discharged after first-aid, police said, adding, the rest were referred to the district hospital where six have been admitted and others sent home after treatment.
In another incident on Gonda-Utraula road, the Tazia procession from Dhanauli village touched the overhead electric line while crossing a railway line, police said.
Though the Tazia was reduced to ashes, no one was injured in the incident, police said.
While in Sitapur, 15 people carrying the 30-feet high Tazia received burn injuries as it touched the electric line in Sabbalpur village under Maanpur police station area.
The injured have been admitted to a local hospital, police said.
