Admin to demand more security for coinciding match, poll dates in UP

 The district administration and police will today hold a meeting with the state election commission, demanding additional security cover in Kanpur in view of Panchayat elections dates coinciding with the cricket match between India and South Africa.

Kanpur: The district administration and police will today hold a meeting with the state election commission, demanding additional security cover in Kanpur in view of Panchayat elections dates coinciding with the cricket match between India and South Africa.

Uttar Pradesh Panchayat elections is scheduled to start from October 9. The voting would be held on October 9 in some parts of Kanpur district and in other parts of the district on October 13.

Whereas, the one-day International match between India and South Africa would be played on October 11.

Both the teams would reach here on October 9 and will practice the next day and leave on October 12, a day after the match.

Inspector General of Police, Kanpur Zone, Ashutosh Pandey said, "Providing security for the election and the match is the priority of the administration and officials as we have prepared a detailed plan for it."

A meeting with senior state government officials was held in Lucknow two days ago which discussed the plan, Pandey said.

Now, the district and police officials concerned would meet the State Election Commission officials today and demand additional security forces for the match and the panchayat elections, the IG said.
