Allahabad: The Uttar Pradesh Bar Council
today called off its state-wide stir following what it said an
assurance from the Allahabad High Court Chief Justice that the proposed increase in lower court timings would not come into effect from October one.

"We met Chief Justice F I Rebello and apprised him of
difficulties that lawyers might face in the wake of HC`s order
to increase working hours of lower courts from 1630 to 1830
hrs," Bar Council chief Arun Kumar Tripathi said.

"We also brought it to the notice of the Chief Justice
that at no point of time consultations were held with the Bar
Council in this regard.

"The CJ assured us no decision in this regard will be
taken unless our grievances are addressed," Tripathi said.

"Consequently, we have called off our state-wide
agitation which was launched last week," Tripathi said.
