Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh chief minister Akhilesh Yadav on Tuesday said his government was committed to improve the power situation in the state and stressed on developing non-conventional energy sources to help deal with the situation.

"Small projects based on non-conventional energy sources set up at different points would not only help deal with the poor power scenario but also keep the environment clean", the chief minister said after a presentation of a bio-mass power plant here.

Asserting that the state government is committed towards improving the power scenario in the state, Yadav said that it was most important for the alround development of the state.

Availability of adequate power would have a positive impact on people`s lives as well as the industrial climate, which would bring prosperity, he said.

Directing officials concerned to give a momentum to improving generation through non-conventional sources of power, Yadav also asked for a survey to see where they can be set up.

The chief minister said that since such plants are based on agriculture-based products, it would help create employment opportunities in rural areas and also earn money from agricultural waste.

Yadav said that since traditional power projects take a longer time to come into being and start generation, smaller bio-mass based power units could solve the power related problems of the local level to some extent.

There can be no shortage of bio-mass in Uttar Pradesh and it can be a good source of power, he said adding the waste obtained from such a power units can also be used.
