Alld HC forms panel for inspecting pollution level in Ganga

Taking serious note of the matter that the quality and quantity of river Ganga water has declined, the Allahabad High Court today constituted a three-member committee for inspection of pollution level in the river.

that the quality and quantity of river Ganga water has
declined during Magh Mela in the city, the Allahabad High
Court today constituted a three-member committee for
inspection of pollution level in the river.

The order to this effect was passed by a Division Bench
comprising Justices Ashok Bhusan and Arun Tandon while hearing
a PIL filed by local sadhu Harichaitanya Brahmachari.

As per the court order, Additional Advocate General S G
Hassnain will be the convenor of the committee, while Arun
Kumar Gupta and Additional Advocate General Jafar Naiyer will
be the members of the committee.

Fixing January 11, 2010 as the next date of hearing in
the case, the court directed the UP Pollution Control Board to
file an affidavit about quality and quantity of water level in
Ganga.

Besides, the Magh Mela administration has been directed
to file an affidavit regarding enforcement of the ban on use
of polythene around the holy Sangam where the month-long
congregation takes place.
