New Delhi: Rajya Sabha member Amar Singh on Tuesday asked Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde to ensure proper security to Lok Sabha MP Jaya Prada alleging that policemen in her constituency in Uttar Pradesh tried to manhandle her.
Singh, who met Shinde, alleged that when Samajwadi Party MP Jaya Prada was in her constituency in Rampur on April 13, an official of the UP transport department accompanied by about 40 policemen came to remove the red beacon of her car.
"...They tried to manhandle (her) by using coercive manner and the audacity of holding Jaya Prada`s hand," Singh said in his memorandum, which was also submitted to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
The expelled Samajwadi Party leader claimed that the policemen and the transport official "trespassed in her private domain, abused her, pushed her, heckled her".
Singh claimed that the earlier BSP government had allowed MPs to use red beacon and alleged that the action came at the behest of UP Minister Azam Khan.
"She (Prada) needs your protection and security and stringent action against this inhuman beastly character and an impartial probe to find out the person behind this act," he told the Home Minister.
