Aligarh: The Aligarh Muslim University has served a show cause notice to the Secretary of the Teachers` Association for holding a demonstration against Union Minister Salman Khurshid in protest of his visit to the University for the Founder`s Day function.
Following the notice to prof Mustafa Zaidi, the AMU Teachers Association has warned that if the notice was not withdrawn, the teachers would launch an agitation to protest the move.
The Association also passed a resolution, alleging that the vice-chancellor`s arbitrary notice against professor Zaidi "is an attempt to throttle the democratic functioning of the University."
Khurshid had skipped the annual Sir Syed Day celebrations at the AMU on October 17 after protests by teachers and students. They had claimed that his attendance would have given "legitimacy" to vice-chancellor PK Abdul Azis who is facing a CBI probe on alleged graft charges.
The Union Law Minister, who was invited as the chief guest, did not turn up for the event as the slogan shouting teachers and students had blocked the entry to the campus.
