Lucknow: Teachers of Lucknow University (LU) today went on mass casual leave in support of Anna Hazare's agitation on Lokpal Bill issue.

"We are supporting Hazare and the cause taken up by him. All the teachers stand by him," LU Teachers Association (LUTA) President RB Singh said.

The LU Associated Colleges teachers Association (LUACTA) has decided to go on mass casual leave tomorrow to support Hazare's stir.

Meanwhile, activist of political parties, social organsiations, college and school students, lawyers and traders associations continued their support for anti- corruption crusader Hazare holding dharnas and demonstrations throughout Uttar Pradesh.

A group of traders also tried to enter Charbagh Railway station to stop Shatabdi Express but were thwarted by the police and railway officials.

A group of activists also burnt effigies of Congress leaders.

The protests remained peaceful throughout the state, Special Director General (Law and Order) Brij Lal said.

Meanwhile, schools and other educational institutes across neighbouring Utarakhand remained closed in response to a call by BJP's Akhil Bhartiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) to express solidarity with Hazare.

Earlier, torrential rains had forced authorities to order their closure on August 16 and 17.

The teachers of Kumaon University in both the campuses in Nainital and Almora stayed away from work.

In Haridwar, advocates as well as employees of Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) took out separate rallies to lend their support to Hazare.
