Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh ATS has arrested one
person allegedly involved in supplying counterfeit notes
brought from Bangladesh and recovered fake currency with a
face value of over Rs 50,000 from him.
On a tip off, Nur Islam of Bahraich district was
arrested from Faizabad road last night with fake currency
notes having a face value of Rs 53,000, Home department
officials said here today.
During interrogation, Nur confessed that earlier he used
to bring counterfeit currency from Nepal. Later, when he got
in touch with Rafiullah of Malda Kolkata, he started providing
Nur fake currency in Bahraich, the officials claimed.
Nur later started going there himself for taking the
consignment by train.
Police said the seized notes in the denomination of Rs
1000 and Rs 500 were of very good quality. A mobile phone,
railway ticket and a card were also recovered from Nur.
ATS was getting reports that fake currency was being
supplied to Kolkata from Bangladesh, from where it was being
circulated all over the country, the officials said.
