Aligarh: Five members of a gang of auto lifters, including the kingpin whose father is an employee of regional transport office, were nabbed here and eight stolen motorcycles and a car recovered following a raid.
Those arrested include Divesh, a student of a local college, who heads the gang which is allegedly involved in at least 80 cases of motorcycle theft, mostly in neighbouring areas of Ghaziabad and Noida.
Senior Superintendent of Police Piyush Mordia told reporters today that Divesh's father is an employee at the local Regional Transport Office and was instrumental in providing fake papers for the stolen vehicles.
The SSP said that the gang members who were arrested yesterday would be charged under the stringent Gangster Act.
