Awardee criminal killed in encounter

A history-sheeter carrying a reward of Rs 35,000 on his head was on Sunday killed in an encounter with the Special Task Force (STF) of Uttar Pradesh police in Gosaiganj area, official sources said here.

encounter with the Special Task Force (STF) of Uttar Pradesh
police in Gosaiganj area, official sources said here.

Bhanu alias Lalla Maurya, who had 21 cases registered
against him in Rae Bareli district, was killed in an encounter
with the STF near golf city this afternoon, they said.

A .32 pistol, cartridges and a motorcycle was
recovered from Maurya`s possession, sources said.

The STF was today tipped off that Maurya would be
moving towards Rae Bareli via Shaheed path following which a
trap was laid, they said.

When the STF team attempted to intercept Maurya, he
opened fire and was killed in the retaliatory firing, they
said.
