Ayodhya dispute: Rajnath, Mulayam call up Hashim Ansari

Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh and Samajwadi Party Supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav on Monday called up Hashim Ansari, the oldest litigant in the Ayodhya shrine dispute, to enquire about his health and invited him to Delhi.

Ansari's son Iqbal said Rajnath called up his father to know about his health.

Ansari, who has been fighting this case for the past 65 years, is also seeking to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

"Whenever I will meet Modi, I will demand punishment to those responsible for Babri Masjid demolition and that the case be taken up in a fast track court...I am ready for peaceful negotiation," said Ansari.

Samajwadi Party President Mulayam Singh Yadav also phoned Ansari and asked him to "continue pursuing the case without any fear".

"Netaji called Hashim Sahab to know about his health," Jai Shankar Pandey, district president of Samajwadi Party, said.
