Aligarh: Aligarh Muslim University Teachers’ Association (AMUTA) on Wednesday requested the President to bar AMU Vice Chancellor Prof PK Abdul Azis from playing any role in selection committee.

"This step has become necessary because the the VC is facing probes by the CBI, CVC and the CAG on charges of alleged financial misappropriation," Secretary AMUTA Mustafa Zaidi told reporters here.

Azis should not be allowed to participate in crucial exercise of making appointments, he said.

AMU spokesman, Rahat Abrar when contacted said that so far they have not received any official information regarding any such probe. Therefore, the question of offering any explanation on the teachers' demand does not arise.

"We have seen some media reports to this effect and we cannot react to such reports until we have any official confirmation of such probes," he added.

s mustafa zaidi, hony. secretary, amuta, has petitioned president of india in her capacity as visitor of amu to direct corruption tainted dr. azis, vc, who is facing cbi, cvc & cag probes not to hold ion committees and especially in the faculty of law on 14.07.2011. interestingly, in the faculty of law, prof. jayadev pati, nominee of the president of india (visitor of amu), is himself an applicant for post of “scholar in residence”. the application of prof pati (prof.-cum-principal, madhusudan law college, cuttack), who is to retire on july 31, 2011 (his date of birth is 01.07.1951), has been received in the office of vice chancellor vide r. no. 775/vc on 07.07.2011. needless to point out that when someone, who otherwise in his capacity as the nominee of the president of india, is expected to monitor and oversee the fairness and justness of the whole process of ion, himself becomes a supplicant, he can bid goodbye to all norms of fairness and impartiality. further, it is a clear case of violation of trust reposed in prof pati by the president of india. further, the timing of the application of prof pati (i.e. a few days before the ion committee in faculty of law where he himself is applicant) is a pointer towards some kind of quid pro quo deal.
