Lucknow: A case under Dowry Act has been
registered against an IAS officer of Bihar cadre in Jalaun
district of Uttar Pradesh on the directives of the court.
Suman Gupta of Sushil Nagar colony in Jalaun has
lodged an FIR with the Orai Kotwali police on the directives
of the local court alleging the officer Virendra Prasad Yadav,
with whom she got engaged in 2007, had been pressurising her
for dowry in order to avoid marriage after sexually exploiting
her, ADG Law and Order Brij Lal told reporters here Wednesday.
Yadav, belonging to Dhanbad in Jharkhand, is District
Magistrate of Madhepura in Bihar presently.
The ADG said the woman has alleged that after the
engagement he (Yadav) had lived with her for sometime and
promised marriage once his sister tied nuptial knot.
But even after his sister`s wedding, Yadav was
avoiding marriage, the ADG said, adding Gupta has alleged that
on her persistence a dowry demand has been made and the family
The case registered on May 27 last is being
investigated, the ADG said.
