BJP demands inquiry into alleged gang-rape, conversion of girl in Meerut

BJP on Monday demanded an inquiry into the alleged gang-rape and religious conversion of a 20-year-old girl in Kharkhauda area in Meerut.

Lucknow: BJP on Monday demanded an inquiry into the alleged gang-rape and religious conversion of a 20-year-old girl in Kharkhauda area in Meerut.

"People have to take to streets to get FIR registered in rape and other cases in the state. In Kharkahuda incident, the family members managed to get an FIR registered after nine hours," BJP spokesman Vijay Bahadur Pathak alleged.

He alleged that the incident was the result of official laxity and apathy.

"BJP state president Laxmi Kant Bajpai will meet the family members of the victim tomorrow," he said.
"The manner in which there are reports of holding girls captive, forced conversion and selling them, it is a matter of grave concern. In the light of the facts which have come to fore in this incident, there is a need for some serious inquiry," he said.

The spokesman said impartial action should be taken without any political pressure.

Tension gripped Meerut district`s Kharkhauda and Atrada areas as members of a community attacked and pelted stones at the houses of members of another community last night over the alleged incident.
Police and Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC) personnel have been deployed in the area to bring the situation under control.
