Azamgarh: A local court on Tuesday acquitted BJP MP Ramakant Yadav and three others in the case of murder of an Ulema Council member three years ago.

District judge Shahikant Pandey acquitted Yadav and three other accused, giving them benefit of doubt.

The prosecution case dates back to August 12, 2009, when one Abdurehman was killed and a few others were injured in a firing between Ulema Council members and Yadav's supporters in Phulpur area.

The national president of the Ulema Council, Maulana Amir Rushdee, had filed an FIR against Yadav and a few others, leading to the MP's arrest on August 26, 2010, prosecution sources said.
