Lucknow: BJP on Friday accused Congress general secretary Digvijay Singh of making false statements and creating sensation and said he must upgrade his information.

"Digvijay Singh's statement that BJP pulled out of the V P Singh government on Mandal commission issue is completely false and baseless. He must upgrade his information," BJP spokesman Vijay Bahadur Pathak said.

He alleged that the Congress leader was in habit of creating sensation. Pathak said BJP withdrew support from V P Singh government in November 1990 after senior leader L K Advani was arrested during rath yatra.

The withdrawal of the support had nothing to do with Mandal commission, he said.

"Digvijay Singh must correct his information and look into facts before making any statement," Pathak said. Earlier in the day, the Congress leader had alleged that when the Mandal Commission was announced by the then Prime Minister V P Singh, BJP withdrew support leading to the fall of the government at the Centre.

"BJP, which is now showing sympathy with OBCs, must say what were the reasons that led to the fall of the government at the Centre," he said.
