BSP announces candidates for RS biennial polls

The Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) Monday announced names of party candidates for coming biennial elections to 11 Rajya Sabha and 13 Legislative Council seats in Uttar Pradesh.

Monday announced names of party candidates for coming biennial
elections to 11 Rajya Sabha and 13 Legislative Council seats
in Uttar Pradesh.

The names were finalised by party supremo Mayawati at
a meeting of MPs, Ministers, MLAs and zonal coordinators at
her official residence here, a BSP spokesman said.

Mayawati said of the 11 Rajya Sabha seats from the
state, the party would contest seven while it would field
candidates for eight out of 13 Vidhan Parishad seats.

The candidates for the Rajya Sabha polls are S C
Misra, Ambeth Rajan, Jugal Kishore, Salem Ansari, S P Singh
Baghel, Narendra Kumar Kashyap and Rajpal Singh Siani.

Mishra, SP general secretary, and Rajan, treasurer of
the party, are Rajya Sabha members whose terms are coming to
an end in July.

Mayawati, an MLC, whose term will expire in July, is
one of the candidates for the Legislative Council seats.

Prominent leaders from the state whose Rajya Sabha
term will come to an end in July are Arun Shourie, Bhagwati
Singh, Jaya Bachchan and S C Mishra.

At the meeting, Mayawati announced that no MLA, who
had criminal history before joining the BSP, would be expelled
from the party or denied ticket for the Assembly election.

"All the sitting BSP MLAs will get party tickets for
2012 state Assembly election," she said.
