Kanpur: A vehicle belonging to a BSP MLA's convoy turned turtle, killing his security-guard and injuring four others, including the legislator's brother, here.

The MLA, Mahesh Trivedi, was travelling in another car.

Trivedi, who represents Derapur in UP Assembly, was returning late last night after attending a private function at a relative's place when an SUV in his cavalcade suddenly got out of control and overturned, a police spokesperson said, adding that the vehicle had joined the MLA's car near Daulatpur village.

Trivedi called up the police and the people trapped inside the car were taken out, the spokesperson said.

The MLA's government security-guard, Ram Prakash Mishra (50), sustained severe injuries in the mishap and succumbed while being taken to the hospital.

The MLA's brother, Sanjay Trivedi, Raees Ahmed, the driver, Neeraj Pandey and Babloo have been admitted in a hospital where their condition is said to be critical. Police are investigating the matter.
