Muzaffarnagar: A local court has issued a non-bailable warrant against a police sub-inspector for not appearing as a witness in connection with a six-year-old criminal case against Bahujan Samaj Party MP Kadir Rana and 11 others.

Additional District Sessions Judge SK Banerji issued the warrant against Vijay Kumar yesterday and directed the police to produce him before it on March 29.

The case relates to an incident at Shamli town in the district in 2004.

The BSP MP and 11 others were allegedly involved in violent protests outside the district magistrate's house, protesting the arrest of then BSP candidate Shanawaz Rana for allegedly violating the code of conduct during Lok Sabha polls.

The charges framed against the 12 BSP members include rioting, attempt to murder, violating prohibitory order, wrongful confinement and assault and criminal force to deter public servant from discharging his duty.
