Lucknow: Opposition Samajwadi Party has
alleged that money and muscle power were blatantly used by the
ruling BSP party in Uttar Pradesh to ensure victory of its
candidates in the election for panchayat chiefs in the state.
"BSP men not only threatened but also kidnapped SP
workers to ensure victory of their candidates in the district
Panchayat polls. Money and muscle power were blatantly misused
by the ruling party," SP spokesman Rajendra Chowdhury told
reporters here.

Sixteen candidates backed by BSP were announced elected
unopposed on December 5. Elections for the rest of the
54 seats will be held on December 12 in which elected members
will vote.
Chowdhury said the party has demanded that the State
Election Commission for panchayat polls to look into the
matter and ensure free and fair polls.
