Allahabad: A Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) leader was assaulted and was handed over to the police after he allegedly molested women at a Muharram Majlis late on Saturday night.

An office bearer of VHP, Abhishek Yadav and his accomplice were caught clad in a burqa while they were harassing women at the Majilis, said a TOI report.

As per the report, a milaad programme was organised near Imambara in Mani Umarpur village in which Muslim devotees were sitting segregated by gender. After a while, a few women at the Majlis became suspicious of two burqa-clad ‘women’ and accused them of harassment.

It was after the two were forced to lift their veils, it was revealed that Abhishek and his accomplice had disguised themselves as women and had entered the Majlis.

While Yadav's accomplice managed to flee from the scene, locals present at the programme thrashed him before handing him over to the police. A FIR was registered against him and his accomplice for eve-teasing and creating a disturbance at a religious gathering.

The leader too registered a cross-complaint against seven people for assaulting him. Yadav's family too came to his defense and said that he was returning to his home when he was attacked and robbed by seven people at Mani Umarpur village.
