Case registered against 16 engineering students

A criminal case has been registered against 16 students of an engineering college for fraudulently availing a scholarship of Rs 25,000 from the social welfare department by submitting fake certificates, police said.

registered against 16 students of an engineering college for
fraudulently availing a scholarship of Rs 25,000 from the
social welfare department by submitting fake certificates,
police said.

The case has been registered against the students of
R K Goel Engineering College at Pilakhuwa, 25 kms from here,
SP (Rural), M M Baig said.

According to the scheme, those students whose family
income is below Rs 1 lakh per annum are eligible for getting a
scholarship from the social welfare department, but these 16
students filed fake income certificates stating their annual
income to be below Rs 1 lakh, Baig said.

A criminal case has been registered against the
students under Section 420 (cheating) of IPC and the matter
will be further probed, he added.
