Muzaffarnagar: Eight years after the death of a youth in an alleged fake encounter case, police have registered a case against eight people, including four policemen, on the direction of a local court.

According to the complaint filed yesterday, Waseem, 25, a native of Muzaffarnagar district, was allegedly picked up and killed on May 25, 2005 in a police encounter in Moradabad.

The court while hearing an appeal of the victim`s mother had recently asked police to register the case against eight persons including SHO (Minranpur) Rampal Yadav, sub-inspector Mavi Singh and two policemen Rampal and Abid.

Hashim, Waseem`s mother, had claimed that she had approached the police after the encounter, but they had refused to file a complaint.

The state government had two years ago provided a compensation of Rs five lakh to her on the recommendation of National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) but no action was taken against the accused, she had claimed.
