Centre should consult CM before appointing Guv: HC

A plea was made to the Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court to direct the Centre against appointing the state governor without consulting its CM.

Lucknow: A plea was made on Saturday to the Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court to direct the Centre against appointing the state governor without consulting its chief minister.

The petition was filed to the court`s registry by a local advocate, Ashok Pandey, who said the term of present Uttar Pradesh Governor B L Joshi was due to expire in April 2012.

Accordingly, before appointing his successor, the state chief minister must be consulted by the Centre, said Pandey, seeking the court`s direction for the purpose.
The petition said the issue of appointment and removal of the Governor was between the President and the Prime Minister and there was no role of the Union Home Ministry. The petition is likely to come up for hearing on March 27.
