New Delhi: National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) Chairperson Shantha Sinha on Sunday condemned the blinding of a minor Dalit girl in Uttar Pradesh when she resisted rape and promised to take action.
Sinha said that while taking suo moto cognisance of the case, they would Monday send a letter to the Uttar Pradesh authorities.
"It is a very shocking and barbaric incident. I think there has to be an end to such violence against children, especially girls. She was blinded and that is even more terrible," Sinha told a news channel.
"I have a feeling that all these issues have been occurring but right now, it seems, they are coming out of wraps," she added.
"We will write to the authorities and ask them to give us a report of what exactly happened and what kind of action have they taken. We will follow up the case to its logical conclusion," she said.
The 14-year-old Dalit girl was attacked Friday in Gursahaiganj in Kannauj district, about 180 km from Lucknow.
The two boys, both high school students, stalked her near a field and assaulted her when she resisted rape. Her screams brought her parents to her rescue, but the boys ran away.
