Lucknow: Former CMO A K Shukla was on Friday
denied bail by in NRHM funds embezzlement case by a local
court which said that the accused could not have evaded arrest
for so long without the patronage of the state government and
police.

Special Additional District and Sessions judge
Rajendra Singh turned down the bail application moved on
behalf of Shukla.
Looking at the facts and circumstances of the case,
accused Shukla is not liable to be released on bail, the judge
said.

The court observed that despite an FIR being lodged
against Shukla in the case on April 7, he was arrested only on
July 12 while the other accused, Deputy CMO Y S Sachan, was
arrested much earlier.

This delay was not possible without the patronage of
the state government and police, it said.

The case was lodged on April 7 in the local Wazirganj
police station after the murder of CMO B.P Singh on April 2.
Under intense pressure, Mayawati government has
recommended CBI probe into the case, as well in the murders of
chief medical officers Vinod Kumar Arya and B P Singh and the
mysterious death of Sachan in a jail here.
