Ranchi: Congress on Tuesday accused Jharkhand
Chief Minister Arjun Munda of misleading Prime Minister
Manmohan Singh on the situation in the state, days after Munda
met him in New Delhi to explain that the anti-encroachment
drive was initiated on the direction of the high court.

"The Chief Minister is misleading the Prime Minister.
Arjun Munda is afraid of the anarchical situation his
government created by demolishing houses that left thousands
of families homeless," claimed Jharkhand PCC president Pradeep
Kumar Balmachu in a press release here.

Munda and his two deputy chief ministers, Sudesh Mahto
and Hemant Soren, had recently called on the Prime Minister to
apprise him of the situation in the state and reportedly told
him that the opposition`s criticism against his government was
uncalled for.

"Though the Centre has sanctioned funds to construct
houses in slum areas two years ago, the state government has
not done anything. The government also failed to address the
farmers` requirements in the wake of severe drought," the
release alleged.

The opposition has stepped up agitations against the
anti-encroachment drive with demonstrations on a daily basis,
bandh and the ongoing fast-unto-death by Jharkhand Vikas
Morcha (Prajatantric) president Babulal Marandi to demand a
legislation to regularise land for the displaced people.
