Lucknow: Alleging the law and order in
Uttar Pradesh had deteriorated, the Congress on Sunday demanded a
CBI probe into the gunning down of Chief Medical Officer B P
Singh in a posh locality here.

"A CBI inquiry should be conducted into Singh`s death
to expose the nexus among criminals, contractors and
politicians," UP Congress chief Rita Bahuguna Joshi said.
In fact, investigations into the killing of all state
government officials in the past few years should be handed
over to CBI, she said in a letter to Chief Minister Mayawati.

The Congress leader demanded financial assistance of
Rs 50 lakh for Singh`s family and a government job for one of
its members.

She said Singh`s murder showed the law and order in
the state had broken down.
The UPCC head alleged no security was provided to
Singh despite his request for the same.
Singh, the Chief Medical Offiver in the Family Welfare
Department, was shot dead by two motorcycle-borne persons in
Gomti Nagar area here yesterday.

Singh was taking a morning stroll when the gunmen
fired shots at him.

Last October, Vinod Kumar Arya, who was appointed to
the same post, was shot dead near his Vikas Nagar residence
here.
