disinvestment of state-owned sugar mills in Uttar Pradesh,
Congress today demanded a CBI probe into the process.
"Four sugar mills of UP Sugar Corporation Limited have
been sold at throw away prices by the state government and
there is a scam of several thousand crore rupees. We demand a
CBI probe into the entire deal," party state president Rita
Bahuguna Joshi told reporters.
"The deal was carried out despite the fact that these
units were running in profit and their assets are worth
several crore rupees," she claimed.

transparent and the exercise was carried out to benefit
She said that if the CBI probe was not ordered in
these deals, the party would move the court.
Party leader V M Singh said that sugar mill at Amroha,
having capacity of 3,000 tonne crushing per day was sold for a
meagre Rs 17.1 crore to Waves Limited.
"The mill is located on 74 acre land in the heart of
the city which include four huge bungalows, six colonies and
20 quarters. As per the district magistrate`s circle rate the
cost of the land is Rs 250 crore," he claimed.
Singh said that in addition to this the unit contains
8,000 bags of raw sugar, 5275 bags of sugar and 10,400 quintal
There is a dispute regarding seven acre of its
property in Amroga and a bungalow at Curzon Rroad in New
Delhi, both valued at Rs 500 crore, he added.
Singh said that similarly Chandpur sugar mill in
Bijnore district, which is located on 84 acre land was sold to
PVS Foods Limited for a paltry 90 crore.
He said that Jarwal road mill in Bahraich, which is
situated on 94 acres land, has been sold to Indian Potash
Limited for Rs 26.95 crore.
"The mill was completely modernised, expanded and
renovated with a cost of Rs 20 crore in early 1990s," he said.
"This is a blatant and huge case of corruption and I
suspect right from the Chief Minister to lower officials are
involved in this," Joshi alleged.
